Herbert Walkers Invests £3.5 Million in Heidelberg Speedmaster to Boost Production Capacity and Sustainability

This advanced machine is part of their strategy to significantly boost production capacity for high-quality greeting cards and packaging. The new Speedmaster press offers enhanced energy efficiency, with optimised drying technology and advanced features to reduce waste, making it an eco-friendly choice that aligns with the company’s sustainability goals. It also provides more detailed energy consumption data, helping the company monitor and minimise its environmental impact.

This purchase comes after a careful evaluation of various options in the marketplace. Herbert Walkers already had three previous Heidelberg presses in operation, but these older models were becoming less efficient. The new Speedmaster press, capable of printing up to 18,000 sheets per hour, is expected to help increase output while improving print quality. A notable feature of the Speedmaster XL 106-7+L is its Inpress Control, which ensures consistent colour quality and reduces setup times, leading to less waste during the printing process.

Additionally, Herbert Walkers has invested in complementary finishing equipment to streamline post-press workflows. This ongoing investment in state-of-the-art technology is part of the company’s larger plan to modernise its operations, cater to a growing demand for premium packaging solutions, and remain competitive in the marketplace. The press is expected to be fully operational by the end of November 2024.
