Hugo Beck and Yorkshire Packaging Systems Collaborate on Advanced Packaging Line to Boost Efficiency and Sustainability

The new system addresses the growing need for high-speed, reliable packaging operations by combining the Hugo Beck servo X packaging machine with a double-chamber shrink tunnel. This powerful combination offers a potential throughput of up to 10,000 cycles per hour, ensuring that the production line can meet the fast-paced demands of the food industry.

The system’s key innovation lies in its continuous motion transverse sealing bar, which operates without stop/start interruptions, enhancing speed and improving the overall flow of the packaging process. Vacuum belts help create a tighter, more efficient pack around the product, which also reduces the amount of film needed for packaging. This efficiency has resulted in significant material savings, with the new system showing a 15% reduction in film usage compared to competing systems.

The packaging solution is further enhanced by the use of ultra-thin film, which has been supplied by YPS and features 30% recycled content. This material innovation has allowed the packaging thickness to drop from 35 microns to just 12.5 microns without any loss in performance, reducing plastic usage by approximately 64%. This supports the sustainability goals of both Hugo Beck and its clients, showcasing a commitment to eco-friendly packaging solutions.

In addition to these material savings, the new packaging line has tripled the customer’s production capacity compared to their previous system, significantly boosting output while reducing waste. This collaborative effort with YPS highlights how integrating the latest packaging technology with sustainable practices can result in faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly production processes​
