Global aluminium aerosol can deliveries rise by 4.4%, AEROBAL reports

The International Organization of Aluminium Aerosol Container Manufacturers (AEROBAL) reports a 4.4% rise in global deliveries in the first half of 2024, exceeding 3.4 billion units. Europe, South, and North America led this growth, with increases of 5% and 11%, respectively.

Deodorant and hairspray demand boosted shipments by 7% and 8%. Additionally, there’s rising interest in eco-friendly “green aluminium,” produced with renewable energy, as well as cans with high post-consumer recycled content. Despite these gains, the industry faces challenges from limited aluminium recyclate access and global economic tensions.

Design for Recycling guidelines are gaining prominence, aiming to simplify recycling processes and reduce material use. AEROBAL is working with the Cyclos HTP Institute to develop recycling criteria and support future EU packaging regulations. However, high inflation, economic slowdowns, and global crises are tempering the industry’s overall optimism.

Despite these challenges, AEROBAL expects consistent demand, with potential slight growth in the latter half of the year. The long-term outlook for aluminium aerosol cans remains positive due to the material’s resilience.

In 2023, AEROBAL recorded a 6% increase in deliveries, reaching around 6.4 billion units, driven mostly by the personal care sector.
