Saica and Mondelēz launch sustainable paper packaging solution

Saica Group and Mondelēz International have joined forces to introduce an innovative paper-based packaging solution aimed at revolutionising the confectionery, biscuit, and chocolate markets. This new packaging offers a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic multipack options, boasting full recyclability within the paper waste stream. Designed for heat-sealable processes, it is available in coated or uncoated variants to meet diverse aesthetic preferences.

The collaboration between Saica and Mondelēz prioritised optimising the packaging for efficient conversion and vertical form fill seal packing operations. This ensures impeccable printing quality, functional integrity, and seamless integration into existing packing lines, maintaining robust mechanical and sealing performance to safeguard product quality throughout distribution.

Aligned with Mondelēz’s ‘pack light and right’ strategy, which targets significant reductions in virgin plastic usage across its packaging portfolio by 2025, this initiative underscores a shared commitment to sustainability. Mondelēz has already made substantial strides in reducing packaging materials and aims for almost all its packaging to be recyclable by 2025. Saica Group, likewise, pursues circular economy principles with ambitious goals for recyclability, recycled content, and plastic reduction in its flexible packaging division.
