M&S Takes the Lead in Polytag’s UV Tag Plastic Recycling Initiative

Pioneering Program Enhances Traceability and Recycling Efficiency of Single-Use Plastic Packaging

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has emerged as a key player in Polytag’s pioneering Ecotrace Programme, focusing on the traceability and recycling of single-use plastic packaging. Through the innovative use of Invisible UV Tags, Polytag enables precise detection of packaging materials within the recycling stream, promising improved recycling rates and cleaner feedstock for recycled PET materials.

As a founding member of the programme, M&S gains real-time insights into the collection and sorting of its plastic packaging across UK-based recycling centres. This partnership not only serves as a benchmark for M&S’s recycling efforts but also sets a new standard for transparency and accountability in the industry.

Polytag’s commitment extends beyond individual partnerships, with plans to install Invisible UV Tag detection equipment in strategically selected recycling centres across the UK. This infrastructure empowers businesses to participate in the programme, offering access to comprehensive data on over 50% of the UK’s household waste recycling stream.

Alice Rackley, CEO of Polytag, emphasizes the transformative potential of the Ecotrace Programme in addressing Extended Producer Responsibility Legislation and driving tangible change in the recycling landscape. This initiative builds upon Polytag’s successful collaborations, positioning it as a leader in sustainable packaging practices with a global impact.
