Tesco is ditching the coloured milk caps on the 245 million bottles it sells each year. The removal of colour from the caps makes it easier to recycle and improves environmental sustainability record.
Coloured caps need to be processed separately from clear packaging, this change means an extra 3,900 tons of plastic will be recycled, claims Tesco.
This change will be implemented throughout all of Tesco’s stores and across all their milk bottles, you will still be able to identify types of milk by coloured labels around the bottle.
Tesco follows its “4Rs” strategy – aiming to remove plastic where it can, reduce where it can’t, reuse more and recycle what’s left. They now offer new mince packaging that uses 70% less plastic and is fully recyclable at in-store soft plastic collection points.
Tesco says it’s removed 2.2 billion pieces of plastic from its UK business. They’re now trialling paper pots for its instant noodle soups; these pots can allegedly be recycled at home with other paper waste.
